Morgantown, West Virginia is a city in northern West Virginia and perhaps best known as the home of West Virginia University. The college was founded in 1867 and has an enrollment of 29,000 students. The Earl L. Core Arboretum is a 91 acre collection of trees located on Monongahela Boulevard, owned by West Virginia University, and is a popular walking site. Students and residents are shuttled around the city by the Morgantown Personal Rapid Transit system, the only example of a PRT system in the country. The system has operated efficiently for over 30 years. The Monongalia Arts Center is the oldest independent arts center in West Virginia and the historic Metropolitan Theater, founded in 1924, still hosts productions today. Morgantown is regularly cited as one one of the best small cities in America and was ranked one of the Smartest Places to Live by Kiplinger's Personal Finance in 2006.
