Williamsburg Vacations
Williamsburg, Virginia is a historic American town that dates to 1619. As the site of the first official Thanksgiving, the Berkeley Plantation is also the birthplace of U.S. President Benjamin Harrison and William Harrison. Colonial Williamsburg is the world’s largest “living” museum. This museum offers 35 exhibitions, 16 shops and 15 tours. The area also highlights several art and folk exhibits, including live performances that depict Revolutionary War life. Nearby Jamestown dates to 1607 and was the original capital of Virginia. The towering church in Jamestown is more than three centuries old and this historic colony is home to some of the oldest buildings in America. As a haven for wildlife, deer, bald eagles, osprey and heron frequent the area. Williamsburg also saw the historic battle of Yorktown, where America won its freedom from England. The area highlights indoor galleries, exhibits and a military camp that illustrates life during the war. Sherwood Forest Plantation, a 27-acre estate surrounded by manicured gardens and outbuildings, was once home to former President John Tyler and features the longest framed house – a staggering 301 feet. The plantation’s grounds feature America’s oldest gingko tree and highlights more than 89 varieties of stunning ancient foliage.
