Utah Vacations
Travelers often flock to the sparsely-populated state of Utah to enjoy the plethora of spectacular natural attractions, especially during the ski season. While northern Utah is punctuated by the spectacular expanses of the Great Salt Lake, southern Utah is defined by spectacular sandstone formations, steep canyons and vast desert. Named after the nomadic Ute people who once made the Great Basin desert their home, Utah still pays tribute to the people from which it received its name. Utah has been home to the Mormon people for more than a century as they—led by Brigham Young—fled persecution and established Salt Lake City in 1847. Utah became the 45th state to join the Union in 1896, after numerous petitions and compromises by the Mormon people.
Visitors seeking a one-of-a kind city experience flock to Salt Lake City to enjoy a spectacular cultural metropolis located within a mere hour of the mountains. Family travelers can take their children to the mysterious Gilgal Sculpture Gardens to explore spectacular artworks tucked away within a natural environment. Those who would like to learn more about what life was like in early Utah history should stop off at Wheeler Historic Farm. Guests can enjoy farm tours, wagon rides, art galleries and plenty of family-friendly entertainment. Visitors can walk in the footsteps of some of the world’s finest athletes by touring the stunning Olympic venues or tour the scenic downtown Salt Lake on a carriage ride. Art and architecture buffs alike can enjoy a tour of The Cathedral of the Madeline while history aficionados can tour the famous Deuel Pioneer Log Home. Guests looking for some time outdoors can either tour the stunning Great Salt Lake or head over to one of the state’s several ski resorts.
Travelers who would like to explore the spectacular Utah outdoors should not pass up a trip to Zion National Park. Established in 1919, Utah’s oldest national park is home to spectacular canyons and rock formations that draw hikers and canyoneers from around the nation and world. One of the park’s most visited attractions is Zion Canyon, which is adorned with natural formations including the Court of the Patriarchs, Emerald Pools, the Great White Throne and the Temple of Sinawava. Guests who are interested in learning more about the plethora of stunning attractions can stop in at one of the parks many visitors centers before embarking on their adventure. Those who would like to see one of the state’s most recognizable landmarks should head over to Arches National Park. The 73,000-acre park features the world’s largest assortment of naturally made stone arches—more than 2,000, in fact. The stunning natural attractions are well-marked and divided into stunningly-named regions such as Windows Section, the Fiery Furnace and the Devil’s Garden. One of the most renowned features is the Delicate Arch, which is accessible by a short walking trail.
For travelers who just aren’t satisfied by the hiking, climbing and horseback riding adventures at Zion and Arches National Parks, Monument Valley makes an exceptional vacation destination. The spectacular rock formations are formations caused by deposition and erosion. Guests can enter the Monument Valley, located in the Navajo Tribal Park to access the picturesque buttes, canyons, mesas and free-standing formations that adorn the landscape. Visitors can also check out Bryce Canyon National Park to view a number of stunning geographic formations carved into the red sandstone. Visitors can tour the park by car by following the scenic drive along Highway 63. Guests can access a variety of the park’s most recognizable landmarks from the road, including Agua Canyon, Ponderosa Canyon, Natural Bridge and Yovimpa Point.
