Since it was founded in 1881, Temple has been a top vacation destination in Texas for all types of travelers because the local activities and attractions are so diverse. It was the first official state park in Texas after six acres of land was donated by Mrs. Isabella Eleanor (Mother) Neff. Since then, after many more generous donations of land, the park has grown substantially. The main activities to enjoy include camping, fishing, picnicking, hiking, and wildlife observation. At the Little & Farquhar Science Museum, parents and their kids can take a free tour of the museum which houses precious metals, rocks and gems from around the world. Another engaging thing to do is at the Azalee Marshall Cultural Activities Center. It has five different art galleries and the exhibits are changed out once a week, so there is always something new and exciting on display.
