San Antonio Vacations
As the second-largest city in Texas, San Antonio offers vacationers a wealth of interesting places to visit and fun things to do. The city’s most enduring and iconic site is surely the Alamo. Built in 1744, it is known throughout the nation for being the site of the Battle of the Alamo. A pivotal event in the Texas Revolution, it was the site of a 13-day siege in which several hundred Texans lost their lives to the Mexican Army, including notable Americans such as Jim Bowie and Davey Crockett. A more recent, though no less popular attraction, is the city’s sprawling River Walk. Snaking along the San Antonio River for more than two miles, it is home to dozens of restaurants, bars and shops and links together many of San Antonio's top tourist stops. Those traveling with children enjoy visiting the Six Flags Fiesta Texas amusement park. Set on over 200 acres, the park is home to no less than eight roller coasters as well as numerous other rides, gaming booths and concession stands. Located directly beside the park is White Water Bay, a water park that houses 13 separate slides. Another prime destination for families is SeaWorld, which features daily dolphin and killer whale shows as well as exhibitions about marine life and a large aquarium.
