Galveston, Texas is located in Galveston Bay and along the Gulf of Mexico. Texas Seaport Museum served as a type of Ellis Island refuge for immigrants during the 1800s, serving as a gateway port for more than 133,000 people. Their detailed historical records are genealogists’ dreams, providing detailed names and records of those who passed through this seaport to gain entry into the U.S. The Bishop’s Palace is a spectacular architectural structure, highlighted by maple, satinwood, mahogany and rosewood woodwork. It also is home to the Philadelphia World’s Fair’s prized ballroom mantle that placed first in 1876. A must see destination for history buffs; this palace is an entertaining attraction.
