Austin Vacations

As the state capital and most culturally vibrant city in Texas, Austin offers vacationers a wealth of interesting places to visit. One of the city’s most popular attractions is the Bob Bullock Texas State History Museum. Located just a few blocks from the nearly as popular State Capitol, the museum features dozens of exhibits about the long and turbulent history of Texas. Those interested in learning more about one of the state’s favorite sons often make a stop at the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum. Opened in 1971, it houses more than 45 million pages of documents pertaining to the Johnson presidency. Those traveling with children enjoy visiting Austin’s two iconic swimming areas, Barton Springs Pool and the Deep Eddy Pool. Barton Springs Pool is the largest natural swimming pool in the country while Deep Eddy Pool is the oldest public pool in Texas. The center of Austin’s entertainment district is located on historic 6th Street. There vacationers will find a huge assortment of shops, restaurants, bars and music venues.  The area is also home to Austin’s sprawling film and music festival, South by Southwest. Though not for everyone, many visitors enjoy heading to the Congress Avenue Bridge to witness the nightly emergence of the bridge’s bat colony, which is reputed to number over 1 million animals.
