Popularly known as the Country Music Capital of the World, Nashville is one of the most culturally diverse cities in the South. One of its most popular attractions is the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum. Opened in 1967, it features dozens of exhibits documenting the rise of country music and houses hundreds of pieces of memorabilia from the industry’s most famous performers. Those wishing to see country music performed live often head to the Grand Ole Opry. It has been presenting live music since 1925 and still maintains a busy schedule of concerts and events. Those wishing to learn more about the state’s history often head to the Tennessee State Museum. Though primarily known for its sprawling collection of Civil War artifacts, it also houses items from as far back as Tennessee’s pre-colonial period up through the 20th century. The Belmont Mansion is also a top destination for the historically inclined.  Completed in 1853, this massive estate was once the home of the Acklen family and now operates as a museum that displays the large collection of art accumulated by Adelicia Acklen during her lifetime. One of Nashville’s more unique attractions is the Parthenon. Originally built as part of the 1897 Tennessee Centennial Exposition, this replica of the Athenian original is noted for displaying a 42 foot high recreation of the legendary Athena Parthenos statue.
