Memphis is the largest city in Tennessee and an ideal vacation choice for music lovers and those interested in history. Its most popular attraction is surely Graceland, the sprawling former home of music legend, Elvis Presley. A member of the National Register of Historic Places, Graceland is the second most-visited home in the country behind only the White House. Within its storied grounds, visitors will find dozens of pieces of memorabilia from the King of Rock and Roll, including two of his former airplanes and a massive car collection. Those interested in a more somber side of history often head to the National Civil Rights Museum. Located in the same hotel where the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was murdered, the museum now displays numerous exhibits detailing the civil rights struggle of the 1960s. Visitors interested in exploring the unique musical history of Memphis always find time to visit Beale Street. The area is crowded with numerous restaurants and bars that feature live music. Beale Street is also home to Sun Studio, where notable performers such as Elvis, Jerry Lee Lewis and Roy Orbison all made their first recordings. Those looking for a more peaceful day often head to the Memphis Botanic Garden. Set on nearly 100 acres of land, the Botanic Garden is not only home to dozens of native plants and flowers, but also hosts musical concerts and festivals during the warmer months.
