Amsterdam: Hotels with Balcony
Amsterdam is both the capital and most popular city in the Netherlands. The city is designed in concentric circles so it is easy for vacationers to navigate and many often do so by bicycle. Many begin their tour of Amsterdam on a somber note by visiting the Anne Frank House. Notable for housing Anne Frank during World War II, the home has been converted into a museum where visitors can actually view the tiny space in which the Frank family lived for several years in hiding. Another of Amsterdam’s most famous former residents is Vincent Van Gogh and visitors can find the largest collection of his works in the world at the Van Gogh Museum. Its collection includes more than 600 drawings and 200 paintings of his work, including such masterpieces as The Potato Eaters and nine of the painter’s self-portraits. Those looking for a more varied collection often visit the Rijksmuseum, the country’s national museum. Inside they will find works by Dutch masters such as Rembrandt along with the largest collection of Asian art in the Netherlands. While many vacationers choose not to visit it, it should be noted that Amsterdam’s red-light district, De Wallen, is one of the city’s most popular attractions. In recent years, the city has tried to upgrade the area and it is now also home to many designer shops and top-notch restaurants.
