Secluded Locations for Romantic Getaways

These destinations offer an escape from the hustle and bustle of the city and day to day life. Couples on a weekend vacation in Pennsylvania will want to consider staying somewhere romantic in the Poconos. There are many elegant B&B's and cabins to choose from in the area. Romantic getaways in North Carolina and South Carolina will often include staying somewhere in or near the Smoky Mountains. A romantic vacation in Virginia should include a stop at a Fredericksburg bed and breakfast. What to look for in a Romantic Getaway Package?

Hoteliers and B&B owners have long known that wedding anniversaries and honeymoons are a big reason why couples travel. Almost all romantic hotels and bed and breakfasts offer some sort of affordable romantic getaway package that includes the amenities popular with couples on a romantic vacation. In most cases you won't find the package to be cheap, but most places do include a few perks for free to give couples a good deal or at least make it seem affordable. Based on our research into the more popular romantic getaway packages we recommend looking to see if the romance package being offered includes the following:

• Late check-out: This costs the hotel or b&b almost nothing and you should ask for it if not included.
• Free parking: Ask for complimentary valet parking if offered; otherwise ask to have parking validated.
• Upgraded room: If the place isn't very full many times owners will give you a larger or updated room. If staying somewhere scenic ask for a room with a view. Tip - Ask to stay in a suite with a jacuzzi in room or ask for a room with a fireplace or balcony.
• Free pass into the fitness center or workout facility.

Tip: If the romantic getaway package you are being offered doesn't include the above - just ask. Many of these items cost very little. We recommend calling and asking (nicely) and make sure to mention you are on a romantic vacation or weekend getaway.

Other items are also offered but they will likely increase the price of your overall stay. We recommend subtracting the room price from the package to see if you are really getting a deal.

• Chocolates, chocolate covered strawberries, champagne or roses delivered to your room. This is a lovely surprise for your romantic getaway if your significant other isn't expecting it.
• Spa treatments: If your romantic destination includes a spa many times your package will often include a relaxing couple's massage or similar treatment.
• Vouchers for a romantic dinner at a nearby or attached restaurant or tickets to see a show at a nearby theater or concert hall. (Tip: Vouchers often don't cover alcohol)

Tip: Call the day of your arrival to remind the staff to deliver your items to the room. This is a fairly common mistake that will get your romantic getaway got off to a bad start.
