Nicknamed the “Tire City” for being, at one time, home to all four major tire makers, Akron is the fifth largest city in Ohio. Also known as the “City of Invention”, Akron has cutting edge research into polymers. Located in the Great Lakes region, Akron hosts the National Hamburger and Founders Day festivals. Often visitors can find outdoor entertainment at the Lock 3 Park in the downtown area, the entertainment center of the city. At a festival called Lock 3 Live the city hosts a musical concert covering almost every musical genre. Akron also boasts some fine breweries including the Hoppin' Frog Brewing Company, which won 1st place in the 2008 Imperial Stout Category of the Great American Beer Festival.
