Tucumcari is a town in New Mexico located on the fabled Route 66. The town still features vintage restaurants and businesses dating from the heyday of the road despite competition from the newer Interstate 40 nearby. The Tucumcari Historical Research Institute and Museum in town features artifacts from the area dating from pre-history up to the 20th century. Examples include an early 20th century schoolhouse and an exhibit devoted to Route 66. Historic sites in Tucumcari include the Baca-Goodman House, a home built in 1905, and considered a fine example of early 20th century New Mexican architecture. Popular events in the town include the Tucumcari Air Show, held annually in the fall since 1992. Tragically, the 2006 air show was abruptly canceled when a pilot was killed just one hour into the show.
