Charlotte is the pre-eminent city in North Carolina and home to one of the largest metropolitan areas in the Southeast. One of the key religious figures of the 20th century, Graham made his home in Charlotte and the library exhibits dozens of films, interactive displays and research materials about his life. Families flock to Carowinds, a sprawling theme park that features traditional amusements along with a host of water-themed rides. Set on over 100 acres of land, it is open for most of the year and a single ticket allows admission to both the theme park and the water park. Those looking for a more cultural experience are wise to visit the Bechtler Musuem of Modern Art, whose permanent collection features works by noted artists such as Andy Warhol, Pablo Picasso and Max Ernst.
