The city of Covington sits on Kentucky’s northern border, just across the Ohio River from Cincinnati. Kentucky’s fifth largest city, Covington boasts a wide variety of historical sites and museums, including the Behringer-Crawford Museum. This museum features permanent exhibits about railroads, steamboats, frontier life, the Civil War and slavery. For more history, visitors can tour the historic Mother of God Church. Built in 1871, its Renaissance architectural style and looming twin clock towers are awe-inspiring. The MainStrasse neighborhood also caters to Covington’s focus on history. Visitors can take a walking tour of the area in order to view houses and other structures built as far back as 1850 and can end the visit to MainStrasse with shopping and dining in its renovated historical buildings.
