Florence: Hotels with Balcony
Florence is the capital of Tuscany and one of the largest and most cosmopolitan cities in all of Italy. Its most popular attraction is the Santa Maria del Fiore, known throughout the city simply as the Duomo. Completed in 1436, this towering cathedral is best known for its signature dome and is the seat of the Archdiocese of Florence. Another one of the city’s signature sites is the Fountain of Neptune, a 16th century marble sculpture located in the Piazza della Signoria. Though vandalized for centuries, it was restored in 2007 and is now under heavy security to prevent further damage. A great place to see Florence at night is by taking a walk along the Ponte Vecchio, or Old Bridge, which spans the River Arno. Built in the 14th century, it is best known for the wide assortment of shops that line its edges. Art lovers from around the world flock to Florence to see one of Michelangelo’s masterpieces, the Statue of David. Sculpted at the turn of the 16th century, the statue stands over 17 feet high and has been displayed at the Accademia Gallery since 1873. Those interested in exploring the rest of Florence’s rich artistic culture have numerous museums to choose from, with the Uffizi Gallery being the most famous.
