As the seat of India’s government and one of the country’s largest cities, New Delhi offers numerous points of interest for vacationers. One of the most recognizable and popular is the Baha’i House of Worship, commonly referred to as the Lotus Temple. Open to believers of all faiths, this spectacular building is one of the most visited buildings in the world, drawing four million tourists every year. Another top attraction is Akshardham, recognized as the largest Hindu temple in the world. Within the temple complex are numerous attractions such as the lush Garden of India, the Hall of Values and the Yagnapurush Kund, the largest step well in India. From there, many vacationers make the trip to see the India Gate, the national monument of the country. Constructed to honor India’s war dead, its design is remarkably similar to the Arc de Triomphe in Paris. It is also the site of India’s war memorial, the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, whose flame burns permanently. Those looking for a more cultural experience often visit the National Museum of New Delhi, the largest museum in the country. Though it features works of art from around the world, its 200,000 piece collection primarily focuses on Indian art and antiquities.
