Lake City, Florida is nicknamed "The Gateway to Florida" because of it proximity to Interstate 75, the highway that carries many tourists through on their way to Florida's southern attractions. Those that stop in February can enjoy the Battle of Olustee Festival. Lake City hosts a reenactment of the Civil War battle originally fought near Lake City in 1864, the only major battle fought in Florida during the war. For a sense of Lake City's history, tourists can visit the Columbia County Historical Museum, featuring artifacts relating to Columbia County housed in an 1870s era home.
