Jacksonville Vacations

Jacksonville is the largest city in Florida, both in terms of population and land area. Those traveling with children typically begin their vacation by visiting either the Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens or Adventure Landing. The zoo is the second largest in Florida and includes exhibits of exotic animals such as lions, elephants and jaguars. Adventure Landing is an amusement park that features laser tag, miniature golf, go-kart racing and a large arcade facility. Travelers interested in shopping typically head down to Jacksonville Landing. Located on the waterfront, this entertainment complex is home to dozens of stores, restaurants and bars. Just steps away from Jacksonville Landing is the city’s Riverwalk. Stretching for just over a mile, the Riverwalk snakes along the water, passing city landmarks such as the Friendship Park River Fountain and the Jacksonville Maritime Museum. Those interested in a more cultural experience typically head to the Cummer Museum of Art and Gardens. Established in 1961, the museum has one of the largest collections of Meissen porcelain in the world.  A member of the National Register of Historic Places, the museum holds 6,000 works of art in its permanent collection. Visitors looking to see a movie should certainly do so at the Florida Theater. Built during the 1920s, this architecturally significant theater is a member of the National Register of Historic Places as well and still maintains an active screening schedule.
