Most Recent Bed Bug Reports:
“On Saturday morning March 26, 2011, I was awakened to find that I had three large red bites on my chest. I was 88 years old at the time and contacted my cousin who resides in Washington, DC. She came to the hotel, contacted management and they sent Loss Prevention to my room. The loss preventione officer inspected my chest, did a cursory inspection of the bed which consisted of just pulling the covers back, never removing them from the bed. Additionally, house cleaning had already come in and changed the sheets. The representative from Loss Prevention suggested that I go to the hospital and that she ensure that my room was changed
My cousin immediately took me to the hospital, where it was diagnosed that I had been bitten. Upon the physicians assessment, she stated "if you were staying in a hotel, I would say these are probably bedbugs". We then responded "I am staying in a hotel". An antibiotic cream was placed on my chest and I was given a prescription for a triple antibiotic cream. The hospital advised me that all of my clothes needed to be drycleaned and laundered and was provided information about insect bites. The above information was provided to hotel management.
Additionally a letter was submitted to the General Manager providing a synopsis of the events along with supporting documentation. Contact was also made with the DC Deoartment of Regulatory Affairs.
During the remaining days of stay, I was lethargic which was not the case before the bites. I returned to my home on Tuesday and had to taken by ambulance to hospital the next day.
My cousin informed the General Manager of my hospitalization. She also sent a letter on my behalf to the J.W. Marriott, CEO and President. My correspondence was forwarded to Marriott Claims. A thoughtless claims person basically dismissed the incident and considered the case closed.
I did not and do not and have sought legal advice.
