Washington DC: Hotels with Balcony
As the nation’s capital, Washington DC offers visitors a spectacular glimpse into the country’s history, both present and former. The first stop for many is the White House, home to the president since 1800. Though public tours have been unavailable since the attacks of September 11, 2001, many still queue up to the fence that surround it to take photographs of the most famous home in the country. Those wishing to get a bird’s-eye view of the city often ascend the Washington Monument. Completed in 1995, the monument soars to a height of over 550 feet, making it the largest stone structure in the world. While Washington DC is home to many memorials, few are as popular as the Lincoln Memorial, located on the National Mall. Featuring a towering statue of the nation’s 16th president, the memorial also includes inscriptions of his two most well-known speeches, the Gettysburg Address and his Second Inaugural Address. Those wishing to explore the country’s extraordinary artistic legacy flock to the 19 museums of the Smithsonian Institute. The most popular are the Air and Space Museum and the Natural History Museum and admission to all of the museums is free. Those seeking another premier cultural experience head to the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, which is home to the National Theater, the Washington Ballet and Ford’s Theater, site of President Lincoln’s assassination.
