Paphos, a coastal city in southwest Cyprus, is a city steeped in Greek mythology. Today it is known for its beaches and ancient structures in the old part of the city. Children love Snake George’s Reptile Park where they can view and even pet various species of snakes and lizards. Kato Paphos Archaeological Park hosts a number of excavation sites where houses have been unearthed. Also at this site is an amphitheatre that visitors can wander through and not far from there is the Tomb of the Kings where tombs have been excavated. While in Paphos, visitors also have the opportunity to visit Hermits Cave. In the 12th century, a monk named Neophytos sought out a quiet place where he could be alone. He found a group of caves along a cliff-side and not long after he settled in, some of his followers followed suit and this is where they remained.
