Colombia Travel & Tourism

Colombia is a country of diverse landscape and equally diverse citizens, offering visitors a pleasing adventure through the hospitable nation. Bogotá, Colombia’s capital, has exchanged its dangerous reputation for a title as the city’s cultural epicenter. Home to seven million people and counting, Bogotá features a thriving nightlife, an abundance of cultural events and numerous museums. The city’s historic district, La Candelaria, offers a respite from the bustle of downtown. Visitors can escape to the island of Providencia to relax or explore the island’s numerous natural attractions. Those looking for a touristy stay can flock to Aguadulce on Providencia’s west coast, which offers hotels, cottages and restaurants. History buffs should flock to the small town of Villa de Leyva. The entire town was declared a national monument in 1954, and offers visitors a retreat into historic whitewashed colonial houses and cobblestone streets. The town pleases visitors with numerous art and craft shops, making it a popular weekend destination for Colombians living in Bogotá. Cali, Columbia’s third largest city, has a reputation for its lively party scene and love of salsa music. Located along the Río Cali, the city also offers a zoo that is dedicated to native Colombian wildlife. Those seeking adventure can enjoy Parque Nacional Tayrona, situated at the foot of the infamous Sierra Nevada de Santa Maria. The park hosts everything from expansive sandy beaches to mountains, rainforests to dry desert. Visitors can also view the ruins of Pueblito, an ancient settlement of the native Tayrona Indians. While the park’s beaches offer plenty of snorkeling and diving opportunities visitors must rent their gear from one of the bordering towns. Those looking for plenty of beachside pampering can travel to El Rodadero, a beach resort south of Parque Nacional Tayrona, while culturally inquisitive travelers can stop by the fishing village of Taganga.
