The City God Temple is both a large temple complex and a massive commercial enterprise with shops and stores. The area known as The Bund is a huge sampling of the world’s architecture, from neoclassical to art deco, thanks to a massive building boom in the 1920s and 1930s. The Yuyuan Garden, dating back to 1559, is one of the best examples of a Chinese garden in the country. Temples abound, with the Jade Buddha Temple, the Jing’an Temple and Longhua Temple among the best. The Shanghai Art Museum has a massive collection, including a major Bronze Age exhibit.
