Palo Alto is a city in California named after the El Palo Alto redwood tree. It is the home of Stanford University and is the economic center of Silicon Valley. The HP garage, where the Hewlett-Packard Company was founded in 1939, is now a museum and has been dubbed "The Birthplace of Silicon Valley". Business firsts around the city, still in operation, include the first Apple Store, the first Whole Foods Market, and the first Mrs. Fields Cookie Store. Other sites in Palo Alto include the Stanford Cactus Garden, the Stanford Theater and Digital DNA, an egg shaped sculpture fashioned from silicon circuit boards installed in the city's downtown area.
