Located in the west-central portion of San Francisco, the Sunset District is fringed by Golden Gate Park to the north and the scenic Ocean Beach to the west. Before the neighborhood’s development in the late nineteenth century, the area was comprised only of sand dunes. Visitors to the Sunset District can explore the expansive Golden Gate Park or stomp along the shores of the Pacific Ocean at Ocean Beach Park.
