Located in San Francisco, California, the world-renowned Cliff House perches upon Point Lobos, tucked away within in the Sutro Historic Landscape District. The Cliff House was first built in 1863 as a small property that eventually became the renowned Cliff House restaurant. In the late 1800s the house was frequented by politicians and commoners alike, until a chimney fire destroyed the building. In 1896 the building was purchased by Adolph Sutro who poured 75,000 dollars into the property to create an elegant new structure adorned with spires. The business was a success, welcoming the presence of two United States presidents until a second fire destroyed the entire property.
