Big Bear Lake is a resort destination in Southern California located on the south end of the eponymous lake. Fishing is a popular activity at Big Bear with trout, catfish and bass the most abundant. Skiing is popular in the winter months at Bear Mountain and Snow Summit, the area's two major winter ski resorts. The Big Bear Discovery Center offers guided hiking tours and animal tracking classes. Bear Mountain Golf Course is a 2,730 yard, nine hole course first opened in 1948. Restaurants in the area include Evergreen Steak and Seafood, the Sweet Basil Bistro, offered Italian and Mediterranean cuisine, and the American eatery, the Teddy Bear Restaurant. For movie buffs, Big Bear Lake was the filming location for the classic 1957 Disney film "Old Yeller".
