Tucson Vacations
As the second largest city in Arizona, Tucson offers plenty of exciting activities and attractions for those visiting the area. One of the city’s premier attractions is the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum. Primarily a zoo and botanical garden, it houses more than 12,000 animals and thousands of plants native to the Sonoran Desert. Another popular destination for vacationers is the Saguaro National Park. Set on more than 90,000 acres of land, the park is an excellent spot for hiking, camping and horseback riding. Those interested in exploring some of the history of Tucson often stop at the Cathedral of Saint Augustine in Tucson. Completed in 1868, it is the oldest church in the city and the seat of the Archdiocese. Visitors wishing to explore Tucson’s arts community often head to the Center for Creative Photography. Located on the campus of the University of Arizona, it holds over 80,000 images in its permanent collection, including works by celebrated photographers such as Richard Avedon, Ansel Adams and Edward Weston. One of Tucson’s more unique attractions is the Titan Missile Museum. Located just outside of town, it is a former nuclear missile silo that has been converted into a museum. Most of the museum is located underground and the original ICBM missile still rests on its launchpad, though all of its nuclear material has been removed.
