Kingman is located in the northwest corner of Arizona (USA) at the edge of the Mohave Desert. It began as a railroad siding station, but during World War II an Army Air Force training center was built, which accelerated the town's growth. Visitors can tour the Army Airfield Museum, which houses World War II era aircraft, and the Mohave Museum of History and Arts, whose displays focus on the history of the area. There are also numerous nature trails in the nearby mountains and desert. Because of its location, day trips to the Grand Canyon and Hoover Dam are very popular. Part of the original Route 66 runs through Kingman and the Historic Route 66 Museum is in the historic Powerhouse building. The Powerhouse Visitors Center, which was originally an electric generating station, is a prime source of information for local and area attractions.
