Buenos Aires Vacations
Often considered the most vibrant and cultured city in South America, Buenos Aires offers plenty of notable attractions and activities for vacationers. Many begin their vacation with a stroll along the Avenida del Libertador, where visitors will find many of the city’s top museums and points of interest. A prime stop for many is the Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes, which exhibits almost 700 works of fine art and 12,000 sketches. Many of Argentina’s most well-known painters are represented in the museum's collection, including Antonio Berni, Xul Solar and Lino Enea Spilimbergo. Further down Avenida del Libertador is the Buenos Aires Japanese Gardens. Constructed in the late 1960s, these gardens are the largest of their kind in the world outside of Japan. The park is dotted with traditional Buddhist sculptures and is home to many native Japanese plants such as sakura and azalea. Those traveling with children often choose to spend an afternoon at the Buenos Aires Zoo. Opened towards the end of the nineteenth century, the zoo is set on 45 acres and exhibits over 2,500 different species of animals, including exotic ones such as white tigers, jaguars, red pandas and elephants. Visitors interested in learning more about the country’s history should be sure to make time to visit the Museo Historico Nacionel. Established in 1889, it houses over 50,000 historically significant items from many of Argentina’s most famous citizens, including Bartolome Mitre, Jose de San Martin and Juan and Eva Peron.
